Celtic honours for Sean Tobin

Congratulations to Sean Tobin who led the Irish Boys U/17 Celtic Cross “A” team to victory at the Celtic International races in Greenmount Campus, Antrim on Saturday last. This year the Celtic International Cross Country races were incorporated into the Antrim IAAF Cross Country which is one of eleven IAAF permitted cross country races in the world & is part of the UK McCain Cross Challenge Series (this well-established series is the focus of the UK endurance running scene over the winter months). Ireland competed with top Boys U/17 teams from Ulster, Wales & Scotland on the day to win Gold. Not only did Sean lead the Irish team home to victory, he also won individual gold in the Boys U/17 Celtic Cross race (in a time of 18.28mins) & Silver in the UK McCain Cross Challenge which was incorporated into the same race. The Boys U/17 race was one of the highlights of the day with Sean showing superb form by leading for the majority of the race. He battled it out with Stephen Kerr of Armagh A.C. in the closing stages of the race with Kerr only taking the lead in the last 400m to win the UK McCain Cross Challenge by just 2 seconds. Sean always brings such confidence & strength to his races & with a performance like this, he certainly shows such promise for the future. He proudly donned the Irish singlet to represent his club, Clonmel A.C, Tipperary & Ireland & is fast becoming a very popular role model for all juvenile athletes in the county. He has had a wonderful Cross Country season winning County, Munster & National titles & always devotes himself to his training & races with such passion. We are all very proud of you Sean. A special word of thanks is also due to Sean’s dedicated & hard working coach, Anthony Moynihan (Clonmel A.C) who has done tremendous work with Sean & his club over the past few years. His great work is very much appreciated by Sean, his family & everyone from the athletics community in Tipperary.  Keep up the good work Anthony.
