National Title for Girls U/12 at AAI Inter County Relays

The AAI Juvenile “B” Cross Country Championships & Inter County Relays took place on Sunday last, 25th January in Boyle, Co. Roscommon.  Amid the beautiful but rather wet surroundings of Lough Key Forest Park,  the County had a great day winning National Gold in the Girls U/12 Inter County Relays and 5 individual titles, 2 County titles & 2 Club titles in the National “B” Championships.

For the second week running, the Girls U/12 were the stars of the day winning National gold in their Relay race . Members of the team were Ciara Cummins (Moyne A.C.), Nicola Loughnane (Thurles Crokes A.C.), Kelly Ann Doyle (Carrick on Suir A.C.), Saoirse Mc Geever (Clonmel A.C.) & Aoife Butler (Thurles Crokes A.C.).

Ciara Cummins led off a brilliant Tipperary charge from the start closely followed by the rest of the field. Limerick was her closest competition with both girls battling it out going uphill to the first changeover. But with a burst of speed, Ciara surged ahead and had built up an impressive lead before handing over to Nicola Loughnane who ran a great leg stretching the lead with every stride. The third leg was another great run by Kelly Ann Doyle who was hotly pursued by the rest of the field. Kelly Ann maintained her composure and going uphill for the last time pulled away again to increase the lead. Saoirse Mc Geever ran like the wind and led the Tipperary team home on a very fast last leg with her nearest competition about 150 metres behind. The whole team was cheered on by the numerous Tipperary supporters but especially by Aoife Butler who was the 5th member of the team. All 4 girls ran superbly on the day and were very impressive to watch in action. Congratulations and well done girls on a wonderful achievement, you made us all very proud on the day.
