Tipperary Challenge

Wins for Mairead and Tommy

As part of the Tipperary Challenge the organisers decided to hold a competition for all those athletes that competed in last year’s Challenge. There was an award for the most Improve Male and Female athletes based on their performances last year.  Based on their times for last year’s race in the John Joe Barry 5k, Bulmers 10k and Poulmucka 8K races it was decided to award the winners of the male and female categories a special award. The winners were Mairead o Connor of Dundrum and Tommy Falconer of Carrick on Suir and the athletes were presented with their awards by the County Chairman, Leslie Smyth, after the Poulmucka 8K road race.

Fethard 6k road race – 4th race of Tipperary Challenge

The action moves to Fethard this Thursday night at 8 pm when the Walls of Fethard 6k Road Race takes place. The Tipperary Challenge has so far attracted record numbers to all the races this year and hopes are very high that this will continue again this Thursday night in Fethard. Going into the Fethard 6k we have 56 athletes who have competed in the three races to date, so the record entry of 63 athletes achieved in 2003 looks threaten.  Here both Sandis Bralitis of West Waterford and Siobhain O Doherty of Borrisokane look favourites to win all four races in the Tipperary Challenge.

The Walls of Fethard 6k once again offers a fine array of prizes like 1st 4 Senior Men, 1st 2 Vets 0/40, 0/45, 1st Vet 0/50, 0/55, 0/60, 0/65 and 1st Junior Man, 1st 4 Senior Ladies, 1st 2 0/35 and 1st Junior Lady. Spot Prizes as well. The Entry Fee is 8 Euros and there will be changing facilities at the ICA Hall in Fethard. There will also be post race refreshments. Last year’s race was won by Dzintars Klava of West Waterford in 21 mins 43 secs with Madeline Dorney of Thurles Crokes winning the Ladies race in 25 mins 21 secs. Last year’s race attracted a great entry of 48 athletes and preparations are well advanced for this year’s event which should attract a bigger entry than last year.
