Tipperary Athletics Do Well in Celtic International

Tipperary’s representatives in The Celtic Track & Field International in Scotland on Saturday the 2nd of August 2008 all did very well.

Shane Prout, of Coolquill, and Jaco Oosthuysen, of Clonmel , did best both finishing 2nd in their respective events.  Shane, competing in the triple jump at under 18, leapt to a very impressive 13.53m. This performance confirmed Shane as on outstanding prospect having also finished 3rd in the recent Schools International in England.  Jaco Oosthuysen can also feel  very happy with his performance in the under 16 Javelin, with a throw of 45.63m.   This won him the silver medal in a high standard competition.  Also in the field events Aoife Bartley of Carrick on Suir continued her recent excellent form finishing 3rd in the Under 18 Triple Jump.  This was a fine follow up to her bronze with the Irish Schools a few weeks ago. Again in the field events Shane O’Dwyer of Carrick on Suir  jumped 1.71m to finish 4th in a very keenly contested under 16 high jump. Only 6 centimetres separated the first four.
