Tipp Athletes win 6 National Titles

 

Day 3 & 4 of the Woody’s DIY AAI Juvenile Indoor Championships took place last weekend in Nenagh Indoor Stadium.

 

On Day 3 of the Championships 6 national titles were won by Tipperary athletes. The Boys U/18 High Jump was a thrilling affair with the top 4 athletes all clearing 1.80m & Declan Rogers of Tipperary Town A.C. claiming gold after clearing on his first attempt 1.60m, 1.70m & 1.80m before knocking the bar at 1.85m. Sean Tobin, Clonmel A.C. maintained his sparkling form by winning the national title in the Boys U/17 800m in a time of 1.58.8 while his younger brother, Anthony also captured gold in the Boys U/14 1000m Walk in 5.04.80mins. Their team mate, Evan Lynch walked his way to victory & a national title in the Boys U/16 1500m Walk in a time of 6.44.20mins. Liam Finn, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also won a well-deserved gold medal in the Boys U/15 800m when he battled it out to the line with rivals from Tallaght A.C. & Dooneen A.C. to clinch his national title. In the Girls U/19 Long Jump, Aoife Bartley, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. had a magnificent competition to win gold by jumping 5.18m with her great rival in the triple jump, Caoimhe King from Westport A.C. winning silver with a jump of 5.11m. Aoife also won bronze in the Girls U/19 High Jump clearing 1.55m. Chloe Fahy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. narrowly missed out on gold when she finished second in the Girls U/18 High Jump with the top 2 girls both jumping 1.55m. A bronze medal was won by Christine Nevin, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Girls U/19 Shot Putt with a throw of 7.20m.

 

 

Other athletes who performed well but who were outside the medals were:- Shane O’Dwyer, Carrick-On-Suir A.C (4th in U/18 HJ & LJ), Niall McIntyre, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (6th in U/14 800m), Seamus Hogan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (4th in U/17 800m & 10th in HJ), Shayne O’ Brien, Clonmel A.C. (10th in U/17 HJ), Sean Kelly, Templemore A.C. (5th in U/17 Shot Putt), Eimear Lynch, Newport A.C. (4th in U/19 200m), Christine Nevin, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (6th in U/19 LJ), Ciara Cummins, Moyne A.C. (4th in U/14 800m), Sarah Ryan, Templemore A.C (6th in U/15 1000m Walk), Margaret Cleary, St. Flannans A.C. (7th in U/15 1000m Walk), Orla Deering, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (6th in U/15 800m), Roisin Cleary, Clonmel A.C. (7th in U/15 800m), Siobhan Hennessy, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. (4th in U/16 1500m Walk), Claire Horgan, Clonmel A.C. (6th in U/16 800m).

 

Day 4 of the National Championships was relay day with Nenagh Olympic A.C. representing Tipperary in the 4 x 100m & 4 x 200m relays. The club did very well winning a national title in the Boys U/14 4 x 200m with a team of Damon Gregory, Colin Hart, Niall McIntyre, John O’Connor & Michael Quilligan. Their Girls U/13 4 x 100m team of Leah Farnan, Emma Hennessy, Ciardha Maher, Kayley Moylan & Amy White also won bronze on the day in a time of 57.88secs & were unlucky not to win silver when they were narrowly defeated by Leevale A.C. with a time of 57.84secs. This brings to an end a very successful indoor season for our athletes where they won 10 national titles, 20 individual national medals (10 gold, 6 silver & 4 bronze) & 2 sets of relay medals in total. Both the Prout brothers, Shane (U/19 TJ) & Darren (U/14 60mH) from Coolquill A.C & the Tobin brothers, Sean (U/17 800m) & Anthony (U/14 1000m Walk) from Clonmel A.C. made it family affairs when each of them won national gold in their chosen events. Other athletes who won national titles were Claire Horgan, Clonmel A.C. (Girls U/16 1500m), Deirbhile Ryan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Girls U/14 Shot Putt), Liam Finn, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Boys U/15 800m), Declan Rogers, Tipperary Town A.C. (Boys U/18 HJ), Evan Lynch, Clonmel A.C. (Boys U/16 1500m Walk) & Aoife Bartley, Carrick-On Suir A.C. (Girls U/19 LJ). Aoife also won silver in TJ & bronze in HJ while Chloe Fahy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won 2 medals in the Girls U/18 (silver in HJ & bronze in 60mH), & Michael Quilligan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won double silver in the Boys U/14 60mH & LJ. Silver medals were also won by Jason Mullins, Clonmel A.C. (Boys U/18 Shot Putt), Seamus Hogan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Boys U/17 1500m)  & bronze medals by Eimear Lynch, Newport A.C. (Girls U/19 400m), & Damon Gregory, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Boys U/14 LJ).Congratulations & well done to all our athletes on such fine performances.
