Templemore Athletic Stadium (Stage 6 of Development Plan)
Templemore Athletic Club hopes that sufficient funding will be in place by the end of 2010 to purchase and install a cage at the already existing discus /hammer circle at the Track . The project is presently at the tender stage and the indications are that the full costs will be in the region of €30,00. When this project is completed the stadium will then be fully equipped (except for Pole Vault) All items including Hurdles, High Jump, Steeplechase Barriers, Lateral Jumps Runways & Take Off Boards carry an International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) certificate which confirms that they are suitable and safe for use at all fixtures up to and including International events. The Track Surface is of special design with a porus polytan material laid on top of other porus materials. This ensures that the track will not flood regardless of weather conditions as all water that lands on the surface is drained away as it falls. Another significant difference with Templemore is that it is Club provided, owned and managed. In fact Templemore along with Nenagh and Castleisland are the only major athletics facilities in Munster that are fully controlled by athletics clubs. All others are managed by a Local Authority or a Third Level Education College
USAGE The Club is delighted to have successfully staged Munster & National Fixtures in the last two seasons. Indeed the stadium could very well become the venue of choice for many such fixtures in the future. It is ideally located and accessible with Templemore being a stop on the main Dublin/Cork/Limerick rail link. Accessibility by road is also first class with the M7 Motorway on the north and M8 to the South, both within 15 Miles of the Town
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE The next stage of development, at the venue, is to extend the current Club House by adding a second storey . This project , which is awaiting planning permission, will greatly enhance the facility as it will include a fully equipped gymnasium, changing rooms, showers and meeting rooms This will be a great help to the organisers of fixtures and their patrons as well as the many people who use the present facilities as a place to exercise and to keep fit
