| Munster Star Awards 2008 A record seven Tipperary Athletes will be honoured at the Munster star awards Banquet in Blarney, County Cork on Saturday night the 31st of January. This is an annual event where the top athletes of the previous season ( 2008) are honoured. To have six athletes among this elite group is a major achievement. A detailed look at the achievements of all seven will show how well merited each award is. First up is cross country where Siobhan O'Doherty, Borrisokane, Niall McCormack, Clonmel & Christopher Bracken Thurles Crokes are the winners. Siobhan's was the winner of the blue ribbon event of the Cross Country season when she triumphed in the Munster senior championships, Niall's success was at junior (Under 20) while Christopher was the number one at Under 23. These successes auger well for the future of middle distance running in the County In Track & Field, Chloe Fahy of Nenagh Olympic had an amazing year winning no less than nine Munster titles and set three championships bests in the process. The full list of her achievements were: Indoor 1st in High Jump, Long Jump, 60 metres hurdles, and 200 metres. She also won bronze in the 60 metres. In Track & Field she won gold at 100 metres, 200 metres, 80 metres hurdles, 250 metres hurdles and long jump as well as third in the high jump. Her records were achieved in the Indoor 200 metres (26.29) & High Jump ( 1.61m) as well as the 80 metres hurdles (12.31). in the Track and Field. On top of all this she also had success at National level as well as representing Ireland in the Celtic International.. Shane O'Dwyer of Carrick on Suir also competed in the Celtic International. . Shane's Munster CV is as follows: Track & Field 1st in High Jump and Long Jump, 3rd in 100m Indoor 1st in High Jump 2nd 200metres and 3rd in the long Jump. The final two award winners excelled in the Triple Jump, Aoife Bartley of Carrick on Suir set a new Munster record of 10.58 metres. She also won gold in the 100 metres hurdles and long jump She also represented Ireland at the Celtic International and was also a member of the Irish Schools team in their International . The final award winner, Shane Prout of Coolquill, made massive progress during the year improving by over a metre and a half from his Munster winning jump of 11.61 metres to a new PB of 13.53 metres in the Celtic International. Shane also made the Irish Schools Team where he did very well . Dundrum Athletic club will also be honoured at the banquet as the top club in the Masters Indoor Championships . Their chief points scorers were Bernard O'Neill, Eddie Greene , James Ryan, Michael Moore, Liam O'Dwyer & Michael O'Beirne. Our congratulations and best wishes to all |
