County Athletic Notes
Shane, Mary, Vincent
and Serena – Thurles Crokes clean sweep in the Dave Fogarty
The Dave Fogarty 7k Road race
took place in ideal running conditions last Friday night. The race organisers
were delighted when our president, Liam Hennessey, arrived. Liam was a great
friend of Dave Fogarty as both men work together on the County
Board for many years. Indeed Liam
met some of his athletic friends whom he competed against over the years. Liam
started the race and right from the start Shane Mullaney of the host Club set
the pace and soon opened up a lead. He maintained a strong pace throughout the
race to come home a convincing winner in 23 mins 8 secs. This was a great
performance by Shane and it is great to see him running well again. Then we had
James Ryan of Dundrum who has been training well of late in Thurles showing
good form to finish 2nd in 23 mins 43 secs, this great run by James
saw him winning the 0/40 award. Then we had a close race for 3rd
place between Tony Fogarty of Thurles Crokes and Kenny Curran of Ballynonty
with Tony edging it close to the finishing line. Tony was 3rd in 23
mins 50 secs with Kenny 4th 3 seconds adrift. Then we had Vincent
Molumby of Thurles Crokes running very well to win the Junior Men’s race when
finishing 5th overall in 24 mins 1 sec, great running over a
demanding course. Then we had Tony Scanlon of Limerick running very well to
finish 6th in 24 mins 6 secs with Billy Phillips of Thurles Crokes
finishing 7th in 24 mins 12 secs. For the record Valeran Thzcoin
of Clonmel was 8th in 24 mins 30 secs with Vasiliy Neumerzhitskily
of Clonmel finishing 9th to win the 2nd 0/40 award in 25
mins 2 secs with David Kenneally of Thurles Crokes putting in a great surge
over the final 200m to finish 10th in 25 mins 8 secs. The 0/45 award
was won by Neillie Hall of Ballynonty who ran well when finishing 18th in 27
mins 43 secs. John Laste of Clonmel was 2nd 0/45 in 30 mins 25 secs.
The 0/50 award was won by local man, Denis Kenny of St Catherine’s who will be
very pleased with this performance when finishing20th in 27 mins 47 secs. Denis
new training regime in Templemore is paying dividends already. Matt Alexander
of Coolquill was a convincing winner of the 0/55 award when finishing 17th
in 27 mins 26 secs. Michael Dundon of Thurles Crokes made a welcome return to
racing a winning one when finishing 1st in the 0/60 category in 29
mins 56 secs. In the junior men’s race we had Kevin Moore of Dundrum running
very well to finish 2nd junior man in 26 mins 56 secs with Ciaran
Purcell of Thurles Crokes also running well to finish 3rd Junior man in 34 mins 45 secs.
In the ladies race we had Mary
Moloney of Thurles Crokes running very well to win a great race in 29 mins 10 secs.
This was a great performance by Mary who is running well at present. Then we
had Donna Nagle of Clonmel finishing 2nd in 33 mins 14 secs with
Anne Cronin of Carrick on Suir finishing 3rd lady in 33 mins 42 secs
with Rebecca Power running well to finish 4th Senior lady in 34 mins
54 secs Eileen Carey also of Thurles Crokes ran well to finish 5th
Senior lady in 36 mins 47 secs. The Junior Ladies race was won by Serena
Moloney of Thurles Crokes in 28 mins 18 secs with Eimear Kennedy of Thurles
Crokes finishing 2nd in 30 mins 4 secs.
It was great to see Shane and
Mary winning the Men’s and Ladies senior races and with Thurles Crokes also
providing the winner in both the Junior Men’s and Junior Ladies races with
Vincent Molumby and Serena Moloney the winners.
This achievement was very special as this race honours Dave Fogarty who
gave tremendous service in helping to establish Thurles Crokes as a great Club
at all levels of the Sport. Indeed last Friday night’s race was a special
Moloney family celebration as we had mother and daughter winning both Ladies
races, well done Mary and Serena.
The prizes were presented by Aine
Fogarty, Dave’s wife and Liam Hennessy. In his address, Liam thanked all
concerned in promoting athletics in the County and it was great to see the road
scene thriving in the county. He paid a special tribute to Dave Fogarty whom he
had the pleasure of working with on the County board many years ago and it was
great to see Thurles Crokes still as strong as ever with so many competing.

from 6.15 pm onwards. The race will start at Abbey road close to the
Better Deal Cash and Carry and it will then proceed out the Cahir road to
Barne, which is the 3 mile mark. The race will then proceed over to Knocklofty
– 6 mile mark and from there it will proceed in along the Wood road to finish
at the Presentation Convent. This is a good course and this is an ideal
opportunity for athletes who would like to run the 10 miles at their own pace
with some company. For further enquiries please contact Niall o Sullivan at 086
