Day 3 National Juvenile T&F Champs
Tipp athletes continued their winning ways at Day 3 of the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore on Sunday 16th July winning a total of 13 medals (7 gold, 5 silver & 1 bronze). There were gold medal wins for Joshua Delaney, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Boys U/14 Shot Putt & Discus), Aimee Hayde, Newport A.C. (Girls U/15 1500m), Dillon Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. (Boys U/15 Pole Vault), Adam O'Dwyer, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. (Boys U/16 Pole Vault), Brian Naughton, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Boys U/17 Hammer) & Jade O'Farrell Bond, Borrisokane A.C. (Girls U/19 Hammer). Silver medals were won by Roseann Fitzgerald, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. (Girls U/17 200m), Jack Barnett, Templemore A.C. (Boys U/15 Discus), Conor Ryan, Templemore A.C. White Selected for Euro U/23 Irish Team

Congratulations to Paul White, Nenagh Olympic A.C. who has been selected for the 4 x 400m Irish Men's Relay team for the European U/23 Track & Field Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland which will take place from 13th to 16th July. We wish him and the rest of the Irish team the very best of luck.

10  More National Medals for Tipp at Day 2

There was further success for Tipp athletes at Day 2 of the Irish Life Health National Juvenile T&F Championships in Tullamore on Sunday 9th July. There were gold medal wins for Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. in the Girls U/17 400m (56.61), Liam McDonagh and Sean Mockler, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Boys U/17 3km Walk (15.03.88) and the Boys U/18 Hammer (62.36m) and Ceola Bergin, Templemore A.C. in the Girls U/12 Shot Putt (9.11). Silver medals were won by Anna Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Girls U/16 Pole Vault (2.80m), Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Boys U/17 Triple Jump (12.53m) and Javelin (49.50m), James Sage, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Boys U/14 Long Jump (5.52m), Susan Nestor, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Girls U/15 Long Jump (4.75m) and Grainne O'Connor, Clonmel A.C. in the Girls U/14 2km Walk (11.43.59). Cracking Start for Tipp Athletes at Day 1 of Nationals


The Irish Life Health National Juvenile T&F Championships opened in Tullamore Harriers Stadium on Saturday 8th July. There were some star performances from Tipp athletes with Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. winning the Boys U/19 110mH in a new Championship Best Performance of 14.48 and also taking gold in the Shot Putt with 14.47m. His brother, Jack won the Boys U/17 Shot Putt (14.70m) with Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. winning gold in the Boys U/17 Discus (36.52m) & silver in the Long Jump (6.49m) and Jake Costello, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. (pictured above) taking bronze in the same U/17 Long Jump competition with a leap of 6.24m. Ceola Bergin, Templemore A.C.  took gold in the Girls U/12 Turbo Javelin (27.84m), Aimee Hayde, Newport A.C. won gold in the Girls U/15 800m in a new Championship Best Performance of 2.15.63 with silver for Susan Nestor in the Girls U/15 High Jump (1.55m) & Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Boys U/17 100mH (14.08) & bronze for Joshua Delaney in the Boys U/15 Hammer (41.63m), all Nenagh Olympic A.C. athletes.

Junior Diamond Record Relay Run & Multi-Event Round Up

Congrats to Sharlene Mawdsley, Newport A.C. who was part of the Irish Junior Women's 4 x 100m Relay team who set a new National record of 44.31 at the Lausanne Diamond League Meet on Friday 7th July. Mawdsley ran the 2nd leg for the Irish quartet who are now placed 2nd on the European U/20 listings ahead of the European U/20 T&F Championships in Grosseto, Italy in two weeks time (20th - 23rd July).

Mawdsley & Daly Named on European U/20 T&F Team

Both Sharlene Mawdsley, Newport A.C. and Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. are both selected to represent Ireland at the forthcoming European U/20 Track & Field Championships in Grosseto, Italy which begins on Thursday 20th July. Congrats to both athletes. We wish them the very best of luck.

Irish Life Health National Juvenile Relay Championships

The Irish Life Health National Juvenile Relay Championships took place on Sunday 2nd July in Athlone. There were bronze medal wins for the Carrick-On-Suir A.C. Girls U/18 4 x 100m Relay team with the Templemore A.C. Boys U/15 4 x 100m team also winning bronze and their Boys U/19 4 x 100m team placing 4th.

Our star performers were Genieve Rowland, Templemore A.C. who won 4 individual medals (W35 gold in Javelin, silver in 100m, Shot Putt & Long Jump); Patrick Naughton, Nenagh Olympic A.C. who won 5 individual medals (M80 100m, Long Jump, Shot Putt, High Jump & Javelin;
Michael O'Beirne, Dundrum A.C. (gold in M85 Shot Putt, Javelin, Discus & WFD); Hazel Galloway, Clonmel A.C. (double gold in W60 100m & 200m), Bernard O'Neill, Clonmel A.C. (gold in M65 100m, silver in 200m & bronze in Long Jump); Pat Grace, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (silver in M50 800m & bronze in 400m);  Patrick Corcoran, Tipperary Town A.C. Tipperary athletes were in great form in Tullamore on Saturday 1st July at the Irish Life Health National Junior & U/23 T&F Championships taking home 13 medals in total (4 gold, 6 silver & 3 bronze). There were gold medals for Sharlene Mawdsley, Newport A.C. in the Junior 200m (24.4h), Maria Carey, Newport A.C in the Junior Triple Jump (11.78m), Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Junior 110mH (14.61) and Sean Mockler, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Junior WFD (8.74m). Silver medals were won by Daniel Ryan (Junior Shot 14.48m) & Sean Mockler (Junior Hammer 51.87m), Aoife Delargy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (U/23 800m 2.21.22), Aoife Mounsey, Borrisokane A.C. (U/23 Triple Jump 9.59m), Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Junior HJ 1.95m) & Mark Tierney, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (U/23 WFD 7.95m). Bronze medals were won by Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Junior Long Jump 6.77m), Sean Mockler (Junior Discus 44.75m) & Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. (Junior 400mH 1.02.04). Irish Life Health Juvenile Games & Relays

The Irish Life Health National Juvenile Team Games & Relays took place in Tullamore on Saturday 24th June. Congrats to the duo of Grace Murphy & Kate Nevin, Templemore A.C. who won silver in the Girls U/10 Turbo Javelin. Well done also to Cormac Healion & Dylan Bergin, Templemore A.C. who were 7th in the Boys U/10 Turbo Javelin, Aaron Dunford & Jack Carroll, Templemore A.C. who were 5th in the Boys U/11 60m & Ben Buckley & Jack Carroll, Templemore A.C. who were 12th in the Boys U/11 Long Jump. Templemore A.C. were also 8th in the Boys U/11 4 x 100m Relay.

National League - Round 1

Congrats to our two County teams who competed very well at Round 1 of the National League in Athlone on Sunday 25th June. Our Men's team finished joint first with Menapians A.C. on 123 points with our Women's team finishing in 6th place on 83 points. Round 2 takes place on Sunday 30th July on home ground in Templemore Track.

Tailteann Interprovincial T&F

The Irish Life Health Tailteann Interprovincial T&F Championships was held on Saturday 24th June in Morton Stadium, Santry. Tipperary athletes played a very strong part on the Munster team taking home 13  individual medals in total (8 gold, 3 silver & 2 bronze). The Tipp Boys contributed greatly to the Munster Boys winning the Tailteann Trophy, the first time since 1991. There were gold medal wins for Sean Mockler, Thurles CBS (Discus & Hammer), Adam O'Dwyer, Thurles CBS (Pole Vault), Jack Ryan, Thurles CBS (Shot Putt), Sean Carolan, St. Mary's Newport (Long Jump) & Jake Vermeer, Comeragh College (400mH). Silver medals were won by Sean Carolan (Triple Jump) & Liam McDonagh, Thurles CBS (3km Walk) with bronze also for Sean Carolan in the Javelin. Aimee Hayde, Newport A.C. made her debut on the Munster T&F team in great style winning the Girls 1500m and taking home gold and the Jack Sweeney Trophy for best performance in the 1500m on the day. Miriam Daly, Scoil Mhuire COS was another strong performer for Tipperary winning gold in the Girls 300mH & bronze in the 80mH with the top 3 athletes all registering the same time of 11.77.  Both Miriam Daly and Roseann Fitzgerald, CTI Clonmel were part of the gold medal winning Munster Girls 4 x 400m Relay team with Jack Hickey, Thurles CBS and Jake Vermeer on the bronze medal winning Munster Boys 4 x 400m Relay team.

Moore Continues Good Form in UK


Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C./Brighton & Hove City A.C. continues his great form in the UK. On 6th May he ran 8.47 for the 3km in Crawley at the British Athletics League, on 13th May he placed 2nd in the 5km in 15.22 at the Sussex Senior T&F, on 24th May, he placed 4th in the Open 5km at the Eltham BMC in 15.13, on 29th May, he ran 31.48 in a 10km in London and on 3rd June, he ran a pb in the 5km at the British Athletics League in Trafford, Manchester to place 2nd in a time of 14.59.89. Congrats Kevin, great to see one of our athletes doing so well in the UK.

Congrats to our Senior athletes who took part winning 14 medals in total (10 gold, 2 silver & 2 bronze). Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. won gold in the Senior Men's 110mH, Shot Putt & Pole Vault with his younger brother David taking bronze in the Senior Men's Long Jump. There was double gold for Robert Bennett, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Senior Men's 100m & 200m with gold for Patrick Corcoran, Tipperary Town A.C. in the Senior Men's Javelin & gold & silver for Mark Tierney, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Senior Men's WFD & Discus. There was also gold for Templemore A.C.'s John Dwyer in the Senior Men's Hammer, gold for Aoife Delargy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Senior Women's 800m, gold & silver for Eimear Lynch, Newport A.C. in the Senior Women's 200m & 400m & bronze for her brother Patrick in the Senior Men's 200m. Please note that the Discus & Javelin is on at 10.00am sharp. The Opening Ceremony begins at 10.30am. First race starts immediately after the Opening Ceremony. The Field Events (other than Discus & Javelin at 10am) can be called in any order so all Field Event athletes should be there at 10.30am. There is an award this year for the best turned out Area in the Parade to mark the 50th Anniversary of Community Games and there will be music, face painting etc. on the day. CBS Thurles Tops at Irish Schools T&F

It was a fantastic day of athletics for Tipperary athletes at the Irish Life Health Irish Schools Track & Field Championships in Tullamore on Saturday 3rd June with 26 medals won (14 gold, 6 silver & 6 bronze) & Thurles CBS lifting the Shield for the Best Overall Intermediate Boys school for the second year in a row. Their medal winners were  Adam O'Dwyer, gold in Junior Pole Vault, Liam McDonagh, silver in Inter Walk, Jack Ryan, gold in Inter Shot Putt, David Ryan, silver in Inter Long Jump, Sean Mockler, double gold in Inter Discus & Hammer, Daniel Ryan, gold in Senior 110mH & silver in Shot Putt and silver for the Inter 4 x 100m Relay team of David & Jack Ryan, Sean Mockler, Jack Hickey & Kieren Moloney. Both Sharlene Mawdsley, St. Mary's Newport & Miriam Daly, Scoil Mhuire, COS won double gold in their events, Mawdsley in the 200m & 400m where she set a new schools record of 53.99 & Daly in the 80mH & 300mH. Anna Ryan, Ursuline Thurles vaulted to a new Irish Schools record of 2.92m when she won gold in the Junior Girls competition also winning silver in the Junior Discus. Avril Deegan, Presentation Thurles won gold in the Senior Girls 3km & bronze in the 1500m with gold for Aimee Hayes, St. Mary's Newport in the Junior 1500m & silver for Sarah Lane, St. Anne's Killaloe in the Junioe 800m. Jade O'Farrell Bond, Borrisokane CC won bronze in the Senior Hammer with Our Lady's Templemore winning bronze in the Minor Girls 4 x 100m Relay. Mark Carroll, Nenagh CBS won gold in the Minor Boys Long Jump with silver for Kyle Dooley, Colaiste Phobal Ros Cre in the Minor 100m. Joshua Delaney, Nenagh College won double bronze in the Junior Discus & Shot Putt with silver & bronze for Sean Carolan, St. Mary's Newport in the Inter Triple Jump & Long Jump & bronze for Jack Pender, High School Clonmel in the Inter 400m. Jake Vermeer, Comeragh College won gold in the 400mH with Joseph McEvoy winning gold in the Inter High Jump with 2m, also an EYOF qualifying standard. The Ryan family made Irish Schools history with 5 siblings competing on the same day taking home 8 medals in total (3 gold & 5 silver) & 1 Irish Schools record (Irish Examiner Article here).

Mary Doyle, Clonmel A.C. RIP


It is with great sadness that Tipperary Athletics learned about the passing of one of our most dedicated officers, Mary Doyle, Clonmel A.C. after a short illness. Mary was one of our much loved officials who held the position of County Juvenile Cross Country Secretary for many years as well as numerous positions within her Club, Clonmel A.C. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Albert, their children Jonathon, Cliona & Lorraine and all her extended family.

Good Results for Tipp Athletes at IFAM Outdoor Meet

Tipp athletes, Robert Bennett, Paul White, Nenagh Olympic A.C. and Sharlene Mawdsley, Newport A.C. all competed very well at the IFAM Outdoor Meet in Oordegem, Belgium on Saturday 27th May. Rob Bennett ran a pb in the 100m (10.84) with Paul White also running a pb in the 400m (47.80) & a "B" qualifying standard for the European U/23 Championships. Sharlene Mawdsley ran 23.88 in the 200m, another "A" standard for the European U/20 Championships & was also part of the Irish U/20 Women's 4 x 100m Relay team who ran 45.93, an "A" standard for the European U/20 Championships. Earlier in the month, Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir ran an EYOF standard in the 400mH at Leevale Open Meet on the 6th May. She ran 61.79 to dip under the standard of 62 seconds.

These Games were held on Sunday 28th May in Morton Stadium, Santry. Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. enjoyed a win in the Senior Women's 400mH in 1.02.20 with silver for Laura Bernard, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Senior Women's High Jump (1.65m). Aoife Vaughan Witts, Borriokane A.C. was 3rd in the Senior Women's Hammer (44.54m) with bronze  for Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Senior Men's Triple Jump (12.56m) & 5th in the Long Jump (6.12m). Jack Pender, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. finished 5th in the Senior Men's 400m (52.26) with Jade O'Farrell Bond, Borrisokane A.C. 5th in the Senior Women's Hammer (38.63m).

Mike "Curley" Cunningham - An Appreciation

It was with great sadness that the athletics world learned of the passing of very popular runner & true gentleman, Mike "Curley" Cunningham, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. on Saturday 20th  May. One of his great friends, Tom Blackburn has written a tribute to him which can be viewed here. Mike will be sadly missed by us all. May he rest in peace.

Tipperary athletes took home a big haul of 50 individual medals (23 gold, 16 silver & 11 bronze) from the Munster Schools T&F Championships in Cork I.T. on Saturday 20th May. Some of the athletes that shone over the weekend were record-breaker, Anna Ryan, Ursuline Thurles/Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. who added 20cm onto the existing Junior Girls Pole Vault record of 2.70m soaring over 2.90m to take gold, Sharlene Mawdsley, St. Mary's Newport/Newport A.C., double gold in Senior Girls 100m & 400m, Miriam Daly, Scoil Mhuire COS/Carrick-On-Suir A.C. double gold in Inter Girls 80mH & 300mH, Daniel Ryan, Thurles CBS/Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. double gold in Senior Boys 110mH & Shot Putt & Sean Mockler, Thurles CBS/Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. double gold in Inter Boys Discus & Hammer.  Our Lady's Templemore were best Minor Girls School with Thurles CBS taking the Intermediate Boys Cup for the 2nd year in a row.

Successful Early Season Decathlon for Ryan

Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. successfully completed his first Decathlon of the season in Somerset, UK on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th April. Competing for his school, Thurles CBS, Ryan, a Leaving Cert student, scored a solid total of 6162 points in his 10 events to finish 3rd overall scoring pbs in the Shot, Javelin and 400m. With valuable experience gained, he hopes to build on this performance througout the season to qualify for the European Junior Decathlon in Grosetto, Italy in July.

AAI National Juvenile U/12 to U/19 Relay Championships - Important Info

Following extensive representations from Clubs, it has been agreed by AAI to move these Championships to a standalone day prior to the start of the National individual competitions. This event will now be held on Sunday 2nd July in Athlone I.T. starting at 12 noon. Please note that the AAI National Juvenile "B" Championships will still take place on Saturday 15th July but with a later start time of 1pm. The changes have been reflected in the updated AAI Juvenile Competition Booklet which can be found here.

The County Junior & Senior Road Championships were held in Dundrum on Sunday 23rd April. Carmel Fitzgibbon, Thurles Crokes A.C. and William Maunsell, Clonmel A.C. were crowned the Women's and Men's County Champions with wins for Eimear Loughman, Dundrum A.C. and Nathan Bowe, Moyne A.C. in the Junior races. Linda Grogan, Dundrum A.C. won silver with bronze for Mary Louise Ryan, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. in the Senior Women's race with Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. winning silver & bronze for William Stephens, Coolquill A.C.  in the Senior Men's race. Thurles Crokes A.C. won the Women's A and B team sections with host Club, Dundrum A.C. winning the Men's A and B divisions.

Munster Junior & U/23 T&F & Juvenile Pentathlon Champs 2017
Tipperary had a strong and very successful showing at the Munster Junior & U/23 T&F and Juvenile Pentathlon Championships in Waterford RSC on Saturday 22nd April. In the Juvenile Pentathlon competition, County athletes won a total of 8 medals (1 gold, 3 silver & 4 bronze) There was gold for Anna Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Girls U/16 with silver medals for Templemore A.C. sister & brother, Ceola and Killian Bergin in the Girls U/12 & Boys U/13 competitions. Alex Reynolds, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also won silver in the Boys U/14 competition with bronze medals for Callum Costello, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. (Boys U/12), Matthew Hardy, Borrisokane A.C. (Boys U/13), Ben Connolly, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Boys U/14) & Lorna O'Shea, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. in the Girls U/14 competition.
Following on from their sister Anna's success, Ryan brothers Daniel & David added to the County medal haul taking home 5 gold medals and two records betweem them. David won the Junior Long Jump while Daniel took gold in the Junior 110mH, Pole Vault, Discus and Shot Putt setting new Munster records in the 110mH (14.97) & Pole Vault (2.80m). Gold medals were also won by Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. (Junior 400mH), Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Junior HJ), Jade O'Farrell Bond, Borrisokane A.C. (Junior Hammer), Sean Mockler, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. (Junior WFD) who also won double silver in the Junior Men's Hammer & Discus and 
Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (Junior TJ) who also won silver in the Junior Shot Putt & WFD & bronze in the Javelin & Long Jump. Roseann Fitzgerald, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. won double silver in the Junior 200m & 400m with silver for her team-mate, Jack Pender in the Junior Men's 400m & Aoife Mounsey, Borrisokane A.C. in the U/23 Women's TJ. Mark Tierney, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won double silver in the U/23 Men's Discus & WFD with Carrick-On-Suir A.C. Junior Girls 4 x 100m Relay also winning silver.  A total of 22 individual medals (10 gold, 10 silver & 2 bronze). Congrats to all.

County Junior & Senior Road Championships - Earlier Start Time of 12 noon

Please note that the County Junior & Senior Road Championships in Dundrum this Sunday, 22nd April will start at the earlier time of 12 noon. This is due to the Hurling League Final traffic that will be heading to Limerick on Sunday.  The four races will be combined into two races starting with the Junior Men & Junior Women together over 3km followed by the Senior Women and Senior Men starting together over 5km and 10km respectively (ie. women do one lap of course).
Can all Clubs please pass onto their relevant athletes and post time change on their social media.

The Irish University Track  & Field Championships took place in sunny Cork I.T. on Friday 7th & Saturday 8th April. Michael Carey, DCU/Clonmel A.C. took gold in the 3km Steeplechase (9.48.32) with gold also for Evan Lynch UL/Clonmel A.C. in the 3km Walk (13.16.44). Paul White, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also took gold with the UL 4 x 400m Relay & individual bronze in the 400m (48.64) with silver for Michael Quilligan DCU/Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the 4 x 400m Relay & a 5th place finish in the 400mH. More bronze medals were won by Aoife Delargy UCC/Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the 800m (2.17.20), Aoife Vaughan Witts UL/Borrisokane A.C. in the Hammer (45.46m) & Darren Dunne UL/Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the 3km (15.23.88).  Other Tipp athletes who competed well were Eimear Lynch WIT/Newport A.C., 5th in 400m & Patrick Lynch UL/Newport A.C. 7th 100m.

4th & Final Day of the Munster Development and Performance Squads

The 4th and final session of the Munster Development and Performance Squads for all events EXCEPT SHOT PUTT, DISCUS, HAMMER, POLE VAULT & MIDDLE DISTANCE will take place on Saturday 8th April in Waterford RSC. The Development Squad will run from 11am to 1pm and will cover Hurdles, Javelin and High Jump. Session is for athletes aged 12+ and the cost is €5 per athlete Please check in at the venue from 10.30am. The Performance Session is for invited athletes only and will run from 1pm to 4pm. The 4th and final session for all Munster Performance Shot Putt, Discus, Hammer, Pole Vault and Middle Distance athletes will take place on Sunday 9th April in Templemore Track from 1pm to 4pm. The Middle Distance session will cater for both Development and Performance athletes. T-Shirts will be given out on both days to all Performance athletes who have paid their 25 euro. If an athlete cannot be present, their T-Shirt may be collected by a coach or someone from their Club.

Tipperary Clubs were out in force at the Munster 4 Mile Road Championships in Currow, Co. Kerry on Sunday 2nd April. Our top female finishers were Linda Grogan, Dundrum A.C. who finished 7th overall winning bronze in the Novice & 0/35 categories, Mary Louise Ryan, Mooreabbey Milers (8th) & Aine Roche, Clonmel A.C. (10th). Our top male finisher was Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. who was 2nd overall in the Men's race winning silver in the Senior Men's category with Stuart Moloney Mooreabbey Milers A.C. in 4th taking the Men's 0/35 title & Jack Corbett, Templemore A.C. in 6th place winning the Novice Men's title. Dermot Hayes, Dundrum A.C. also took the Munster title in the Master  Men 0/50 with Tom Blackburn, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. winning silver & bronze for James Ryan, Dundrum A.C. Michael Moore, Dundrum A.C. won a silver medal in the 0/55 category.
In the Team competitions, Tipperary were 2nd in the Novice Women's Inter-County competition with a team of Linda Grogan, Mary Louise Ryan, Marie O'Shea, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. & Aine Roche, Clonmel A.C. and 3rd in the Senior category with the same team. Tipp women also won bronze in the 0/35 category with Mooreabbey Milers A.C. also winning bronze in the Inter-Club 0/35 category. In the Men's team competitions, there was gold for the Tipperary 0/50 team of Dermot Hayes, Tom Blackburn, James Ryan & Damiel Holian, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. with Dundrum A.C. winning the Inter-Club 0/50 competition & silver for Mooreabbey Milers A.C. Tipp also won silver in the Senior competition with a team of Kevin Moore, Stuart Moloney, Jack Corbett, John Treacy, John Fitzgibbon, Thurles Crokes A.C. & Kieran Lees, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. and bronze in the Novice competition with a team of Jack Corbett, John Treacy, John Fitzgibbon,  Kieran Lees, Gareth McGlinchy & Dermot Hayes, Dundrum.

AAI Spring Throws

The AAI Spring Throws took place on Sunday 2nd April in AIT Track. The County was very well represented by Templemore A.C., Nenagh Olympic A.C., Borrisokane A.C. & Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. Joshua Delaney, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won the 1kg Discus with gold for Sean Mockler, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the 1.5kg Discus and bronze for Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. and silver for Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the 1.75kg Discus. John Dwyer, Templemore A.C. won bronze in the Men's 7.26kg Hammer with gold for Sean Mockler in the 5kg Hammer. Aoife Vaughan Witts, Borrisokane A.C. won bronze in the Women's 4kg Hammer with a 7th place finish for Jade O'Farrell Bond and there was another bronze medal for Sean Carolan in the Men's 700g Javelin.

Irish Life Health National Juvenile Indoor Champs - Day 3

Tipperary athletes rounded off their National Indoor Championships in style on Day 3 taking home 4 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze & 1 national record from AIT Arena on Saturday 1st April. Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. gave a master class in the Boys U/19 60mH winning gold and setting a new National record of 8.16 to make it 3 gold medals out of 3 for his Championships. Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. (pictured above) had a great run in the Boys U/17 60mH to win gold to add to his gold medal in the High Jump and his bronze medal in the Long Jump with Armand Schoeman, Templemore A.C. winning bronze in the Boys U/15 60mH to add to his bronze medal won last weekend in the 60m. Other gold medal winners were Ceola Bergin, Templemore A.C. who won the Girls U/12 Shot Putt with a throw of 9.15m with Miriam Daly, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. taking the title in the Girls U/17 200m in a time of 25.21. In the middle distance races, both Aimee Hayde, Newport A.C. and Ava Fennessy, Clonmel A.C. won super silver medals in the Girls U/15 & U/16 800m with silver also for Killian Power, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. in the Boys U/12 Long Jump with 4.30m.

Another Day of Gold in Athlone for Tipp

Tipperary's success continued on Day 2 of the Irish Life Health National Juvenile Indoor Championships on Sunday 26th March. Without a doubt, the top scoring Club for the County was Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. whose athletes amassed a fantastic total of 7 gold medals and 2 silver medals with 2 National records into the bargain over the weekend. Day 2 saw National titles and gold medals for the Ryan siblings, Daniel, David and Dillon in the Boys U/19 & U/18 Long Jumps and the Boys U/15 Pole Vault with a national record of 2.71m for Dillon. Adam O'Dwyer also took gold in the Boys U/16 Pole Vault with a National record of 3.25m with Liam McDonagh winning the Boys U/17 Walk. Other County medal winners on the day were Sean Carolan and Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. 2nd & 3rd in the Boys U/17 Long Jump & Armand Schoeman, Templemore A.C. 3rd in Boys U/15 60m. Golden Day 1 of National Juvenile Indoors for Tipp Athletes

Some of Tipperary's finest athletes got their individual National Indoor campaigns underway at Day 1 of the Irish Life Health Juvenile Indoor Championships on Saturday 25th March in AIT International Arena. There were gold medal wins and personal bests for Ryan brothers, Daniel and Jack from Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. with older brother Daniel winning the Boys U/19 Shot Putt with a throw of 15.34m and Jack (pictured above) taking the National Boys U/17 title on his last throw with 13.85m. Their younger sister, Anna won silver in the Girls U/16 Pole Vault with a personal best of 2.75m, Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. took gold in the Boys U/17 High Jump with a super clearance of 1.94m with silver for Sean Mockler, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the very competitive Boys U/18 Shot Putt and his team-mate David Ryan finishing in 4th place. 5th Place for Hayde at SIAB Schools XC

At the SIAB Schools Cross Country International in Port Talbot, Wales on Saturday 25th March, Aimee Hayde, St. Mary's Newport/Newport A.C. made her first international appearance for Ireland and finished 5th in the Junior Girls race in a time of 15.37. Hayde ran a super race to come home first of the Irish athletes with the Irish team finishing in 4th place on the day.

Information Evening with Kieron Stout, National Children's Officer

Tipperary County Board have organised a talk by Kieron Stout, National Children's Officer, Athletics Ireland, on the Role of the Children's Officer, Safe Recruitment, Supporting Children & Coaches & the Voice of the Child in Sport.  
There will be an opportunity for questions & answers afterward.
The Talk will take place on Tuesday 28th March at 7pm in Thurles Crokes A.C. Clubhouse (Nenagh Road out of Thurles on the left hand side after the Cash & Carry). With new legislation implemented in this area in 2016, it is really important that all Clubs have their Child Officers at this talk so that everyone is up to date with the new laws. Any interested  Club members are also welcome to attend.

Clonmel A.C. duo, Kealy Tideswell and Michael Carey were the winners of the County Intermediate Road Crowns in Faugheen, Carrick-On-Suir on Sunday 19th March. Silver medals went to Lorraine Healy, Moyne A.C. and John Treacy, Thurles Crokes A.C. with bronze for Claire Devitt, Dundrum A.C. and John Fitzgibbon, Thurles Crokes A.C. Clonmel A.C. took the Women't team title with Thurles Crokes A.C. winning the Men's team title.

Tipperary Throws Festival 2017

Tipperary County Board organised a very successful Throws Festival in Templemore Track on Saturday 18th March.  With outdoor throwing events in short supply at this time of year, it gave 45 athletes from 3 provinces the chance to throw early in their outdoor season to see where they are in their competition preparations. 
Events covered on the day were Shot Putt, Hammer, Javelin & Discus along with Mile & 400m races. Niamh Fogarty, North Westmeath A.C. threw just short of a European Junior standard in  her 5th round throw of the Discus (45.29m) with Rory Gunning, Clonliffe Harriers A.C. winning the Men's Javelin with 57.52, Eoin Sheridan, North Westmeath A.C. winning the Discus (51.89m), John Dwyer, Templemore A.C. winning gold in the Men's Hammer with 52.46m & Cara Kennedy, Ferrybank A.C. taking victory in the Women's Hammer with 58.07m.  A lot of athletes also threw personal bests on the day. Many thanks to all who travelled to the competition from far and wide and to all our officials, parents  & coaches who helped out on the day. All your support is greatly appreciated.

All Ireland Schools Gold for Hayde and St. Mary's Nenagh


Aimee Hayde, St. Mary's Newport was the standout performer for Tipperary at the Irish Life Health Irish Schools Cross Country Championships in Mallusk, Co. Antrim on Saturday 11th March. Hayde took the Junior Girls title in 10.28, 9 seconds ahead of 2nd place. St. Mary's Nenagh Minor Girls team also took gold in their race finishing on 27 points with their team of Niamh Cunneen (5th), Ailbhe O'Neill (10th), Ellen Cunneen (12th) & Aoibheann Slattery (81st). Other individual winners for Tipperary were Avril Deegan, Presentation Thurles who was 4th in the Senior Girls race & Claire Rafter, Ursuline Thurles who was 5th in the same race. The Presentation Thurles also won bronze in the team competition for Senior Girls with the Ursuline Thurles in 5th place. Thurles CBS had two teams on the day with their Minor Boys finishing in 7th place & their Intermediate team in 9th place overall.

4th & Final Day of the Munster Development and Performance Squads

The 4th and final session of the Munster Development and Performance Squads for all events EXCEPT SHOT PUTT, DISCUS, HAMMER, POLE VAULT & MIDDLE DISTANCE will take place on Saturday 8th April in Waterford RSC. The Development Squad will run from 11am to 1pm and will cover Hurdles, Javelin and High Jump. Session is for athletes aged 12+ and the cost is €5 per athlete Please check in at the venue from 10.30am. The Performance Session is for invited athletes only and will run from 1pm to 4pm. The 4th and final session for all Munster Performance Shot Putt, Discus, Hammer, Pole Vault and Middle Distance athletes will take place on Sunday 9th April in Templemore Track from 1pm to 4pm. The Middle Distance session will cater for both Development and Performance athletes. T-Shirts will be given out on both days to all Performance athletes who have paid their 25 euro. If an athlete cannot be present, their T-Shirt may be collected by a coach or someone from their Club. 

Extra Munster Development and Performance Walks Squad

Frank Lynch, Munster Performance Walks Coach will be holding an additional session for Development and Performance Walkers on Saturday next, 18th March in Nenagh Indoor Stadium from 10am to noon. All interested Walkers are welcome to attend, cost for the session is 5 euro per athlete.

Masterful Performances in Athlone

Tipperary athletes competed very well at the Irish Life Health All Ireland Master Indoor Championships in AIT Arena, Athlone on Sunday 5th March. Top scorer for the County was Patrick Naughton, Nenagh Olympic A.C. who won 5 gold medals in the M80 category in the 60m (13.84), LJ (2.20m), HJ (1.00m), WFD (2.95m) & Shot (7.99m).  Another of our octogenarians in action was Michael O'Beirne, Dundrum A.C. who won gold in the M85 WFD (1.92m) and silver in the Shot (3.31m). Miceal McCormack, Fethard A.C. won silver in the M70 3km Walk (23.32.44), Shot (7.51m), WFD (3.95m) & 1500m (6.36.30). Sprint Queen, Hazel Galloway, Clonmel A.C. took double National titles in the W60 60m (9.93) & 200m (34.57) with Genieve Rowland, Templemore A.C. winning gold in the W35 LJ (4.14m) & silver  in the Shot (8.70m).  Danny Meaney, Templemore A.C. won the M35 LJ (5.61m) with silver for Richard Phelan, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. (5.34m). Martin O'Grady, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won gold in the M45 High Jump with a leap of 1.55m with bronze medals for Kevin Shorthall, Templemore A.C. in the M35 HJ (1.65m) & bronze for Liam O'Dwyer, Dundrum A.C. in the M65 HJ (1.10m). Pat Grace, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won gold in the M50 800m in 2.12.14 with silver for team-mate Mark Gleeson in the M50 3km (9.47.72) & bronze for John Fitzgibbon, Thurles Crokes A.C. in the M35 3km (9.26.10). Bernard Feery, Fethard A.C. won double bronze in the M55 1500m (5.09.37) & 3km (11.15.17). There was gold for Martin O'Brian, Templemore A.C. in the M60 3km Walk (22.15.14) & silver for Ross Alexander, Coolquill A.C. in the M35 3km Walk (15.34.51) with Templemore A.C. winning gold in the 4 x 200m Relay in a time of 1.43.66.

98th For Moore in English Senior XC Champs

Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. competing for his English Club Brighton & Hove City A.C. finished a great 98th place in 43.15 (out of a field of almost 1800 runners) at the Saucony ECCA National Cross Country Championships held in Nottingham.

SEC CHAMPION in the men's mile = Sean Tobin! Wins his first individual league title with time of 4:00.18.
Congrats to Sean Tobin, University of Mississippi/Clonmel A.C. who continues his brilliant form in the US with a gold medal win in the Men's Mile at the SEC Championships in a time of 4.00.18.  His Ole Miss team also won the SECITF Men's Distance Medley Relay with a Meet Record of 9.32.36 for the 4th year in a row.

The Munster U/13 to U/19 Indoor Championships took place on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th February in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. Jack Barnett, Templemore A.C. set a new record of 13.93m in the Boys U/15 Shot Putt, Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. & Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also set new Munster records in their events, Ryan in the U/19 60mH with his time of 8.19 to better Leevale A.C. Sam Healy's run of 8.39 set in 2014 with McEvoy leaping to a new height of 1.98m in the U/17 High Jump to beat Old Abbey A.C. athlete David Cussen's 2012 record of 1.95m. Ryan amassed a big haul of medals over the weekend with 4 gold in the U/19 60m, 60mH, Long Jump & Shot Putt & silver in the High Jump with McEvoy winning gold, silver & bronze in the U/17 High  Jump, 60mH & Long Jump. National Senior 200m title for Mawdsley


Following on from her superb run yesterday in the heats of the National Senior 200m where she set a new National Junior record of 23.85, Mawdsley continued her winning ways taking victory in her 200m final today (Sunday 19th) & a National Senior title in a time of 24.04. William Maunsell, Clonmel A.C. also put in a fine performance in the Senior Men's 3km to win silver in a time of 8.22.46 with Aoife Delargy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. placing 8th in the final of the 800m in 2.24.19. Tipperary were also represented in the field events by Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. who jumped a pb of 6.40m to finish in 7th place with David Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. continuing his road to recovery with a solid 8th place finish with 6.39m. Moyne A.C. hosted the County Novice Road Championships on Sunday 19th February. Lorraine Healy, Moyne A.C. & Michael Carey, Clonmel A.C. were the winners of the Ladies' & Men's County crowns with team victories for Moyne A.C. Ladies & the men from Clonmel A.C.

Sharlene Mawdsley, Newport A.C. ran a National Junior record of 23.85 in her heat at the National Senior Indoor Championships in Abbotstown on Saturday 18th February & also set a new Stadium record. She competes in the final tomorrow (Sunday). Other Tipperary athletes competing were Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. who vaulted an Indoor pb of 3.80m in the Senior Men's Pole Vault to finish 8th, Patrick Lynch, Newport A.C. (60m 7.29, 5th in Heat), Eimear Lynch, Newport A.C. (400m 1.03.56, 4th in Heat), Anthony Tobin & Evan Lynch, Clonmel A.C. (5km Walk 5th & 6th in 23.15.55 & 23.15.75), Michael Quilligan (400m 50.82 3rd in Heat) & Paul White,(400m 49.77 1st in Heat) Nenagh Olympic A.C., Adrian McGinley, Templemore A.C. Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. In Great Running Form in UK

Recent Munster Star Award Winner, Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. is currently based in the UK & is enjoying great success with his new Club Brighton & Hove City A.C. On Saturday 28th January, Kevin ran the Southern Cross Country Championships in Parliament Hill, London & finished 60th out of a field of 1200 runners in a time of 53.35. Then at the Chichester 10km in West Sussex on the 5th Februrary, he finished 5th & ran a new pb of 31.52 with his Club placing 2nd overall in the team competition.

Irish Life Health Juvenile "B" & Masters Cross Country Championships
These Championships took place in Carraiganore, WIT Waterford on Sunday 12th February.
Our best Master finishers were: Mark Gleeson, Nenagh Olympic A.C. who was 2nd in the 0/50 category & 29th overall, Tom Blackburn, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. was 6th 0/50 & 54th overall with Michael Moore, Dundrum A.C. 11th in the 0/55 category & 167th overall & Gerard Griffin, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. 13th 0/55 & 177th overall. Mooreabbey Milers A.C. 0/50 team were 6th & the Tipperary County Team 0/50 was 4th. Kevin Patrick Lenihan  was 106th, Willie O'Donoghue 147th, Damien Holian 157th (all Mooreabbey Milers A.C.) with Jim Halley & PJ Holmes, Dundrum A.C. 187th & 195th. In the Juvenile "B" competition, both Clonmel A.C. & Moyne A.C. won National bronze Inter-Club medals in the Boys U/11 & Boys U/17 races with individual medals for Lorna Ryan, Dundrum A.C. (10th Girls U/13) & Emma Murray, Coolquill A.C. (7th Girls U/15).

Reynolds Hits Euro Standard as Youth Records Tumble
There was a win for William Maunsell, Clonmel A.C. in the 3km Senior race (8.16.65), Tony Fogarty, Templemore A.C. was 6th in his 3km race in 9.07.41, William Hughes, Thurles Crokes A.C. was 4th in his 800m race (1.58.33) with his team-mates Kevin Coleman & John Dooley 2nd & 3rd in their 800m race with 2.04.89 & 2.06.03. Robert Bennett, Templemore A.C. was 2nd in his 200m race in 22.11 with Patrick Lynch, Newport A.C. 4th in his race in 23.15. Michael Quilligan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won his 60m heat in 7.30 & was 2nd in his 200m race in 23.32 with Eimear Lynch, Newport A.C. 6th in her 400m race (1.02.50) & Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. 5th in the Long Jump (6.12m).

The Irish Life Health National Junior & U/23 Indoor Championships took place in AIT Arena, Athlone on Sunday 29th January. Some of Tipperary's finest athletes took to the track & field events on the day with gold for Sharlene Mawdsley, Newport A.C. in the Junior 200m, gold for Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Junior 60mH & silver in the Shot Putt, gold for Evan Lynch, Clonmel A.C. in the U/23 3km Walk, silver for Aoife Delargy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the U/23 400m, silver for Deirbhile Ryan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the U/23 Shot Putt & High Jump, bronze for David Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Junior Long Jump, 4th place for Paul White, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the U/23 400m. Joseph McEvoy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. finished 5th in the Junior Men's High Jump & 10th in the Long Jump, Sean Carolan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. was 8th in the Junior Men's Long Jump & Anthony Tobin, Clonmel A.C. was unfortunate to be disqualified in the U/23 Men's Walk.

These Championships were held in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Sunday 22nd January. The County was well represented by a number of Clubs with the 3 strongest on the day being Nenagh Olympic A.C., Templemore A.C. & Carrick-On-Suir A.C. Carrick won 2 gold (Girls & Boys U/18) & 2 silver (Boys U/12 & Girls U/17), Templemore A.C. won 1 gold (Boys U/15), 1 silver (Boys U/16) & 3 bronze (Boys U/11, Girls & Boys U/13) with Nenagh Olympic A.C. winning 2 silver (Boys U/11 & U/14) & 1 bronze (Boys U/16).

9th Place Finish for Moore at National Intermediate XC


Congrats to Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. who had an excellent race to finish in 9th place at the Irish Life Health National Intermediate Cross Country Championships in the Palace Grounds, Tuam on Sunday 22nd January. Moore was Tipperary's only representative in the race & was also 2nd athlete home for Munster just behind Tim O'Connor, An Riocht A.C. Moore is pictured above coming around the final bend before the finish.

Munster Juvenile Indoor Pole Vault Championships


These Championships took place on Sunday 22nd January in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. The County was well represented by 3 athletes from Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C., Adam O'Dwyer & brother & sister, Dillon & Anna Ryan. Dillon Ryan won the Boys U/15 competition vaulting 2.70m, Anna Ryan was 2nd in the Girls U/16 competition finishing at 2.55m with Adam O'Dwyer winning gold & vaulting a new Munster Record of 3.20m. Congratulations to all three athletes.

Win for Nenagh at National Inter-Club XC Relays

Congrats to Nenagh Olympic A.C. Boys U/12 team scored a brilliant victory at the Irish Life Health Juvenile Inter-Club Cross Country Championships in the Palace Grounds, Tuam on Saturday 21st January.  Members of the team were Filip McIntyre, Ben Walshe, Tom Walshe, Cian Hodgins & Zak Egan.

Congrats to Adrian McGinley, Templemore A.C. who won bronze in the M35 category. His team-mate Adrian Young was 7th in the M50+ category with a 5th place finish for Susan Nestor, Nenagh Olympic A.C. & an 8th place finish for Sean Burke Moyne A.C. Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C started the day well in the Junior Men's competition with a pb of 8.19 in the 60mH but had to withdraw from the competition at the 2nd event, the Long Jump due to injury.

Glittering Tipperary Athletics Star Awards Night Held

On Saturday 14th January, the Horse & Jockey Hotel was the venue for the Tipperary Athletics Star Awards where the finest athletes in the County were honoured for their excellent performances in 2016. Numerous award winners from County to International level received their awards to rapturous applause from a packed auditorium. Among the guests on the night were Georgina Drumm, President of Athletics Ireland,  Liam Hennessy, Athletics Ireland Board Member/Council Member European Athletics, Jacqui Freyne, Director Junior High Performance, Athletics Ireland, Mossie Woulfe, Chairman of Munster Athletics, Siobhan Ambrose, Chairperson of Tippeary County Council & Seamus Hanafin, local FF Councillor. Most popular award of the night went to our 86 year old Life President, Mrs. Breeda Christie who received her Hall of Fame Award from her former athlete & life long friend, Liam Hennessy, to two standing ovations. A sincere thanks to all who helped organise the night & to everyone that turned up to honour our athletes.

Great Write Up in Irish Examiner about Munster Masters Indoors

The Munster Masters Indoor Championships were held in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Sunday 15th January. Congrats to all our Tipperary Master athletes who competed very well on the day.
Michael O'Beirne, Dundrum A.C. our oldest master competing on the day won double gold in the 0/80 category Shot Putt & Weight for Distance. Some of our other prolific winners were: Noel Monteith, Borrisokane A.C. who won 3 medals in the 0/70 High Jump (3rd), Weight for Distance (1st) & Shot Putt (1st) setting a new CBP of 9.55m. Bernard O'Neill, Clonmel A.C. was also in great form winning 3 gold medals in the M65 60m, 200m & Long Jump. Geneive Rowland, Templemore A.C. picked up 4 medals in total in the F35 60m, 200m, Shot Putt (all gold) & silver in the Long Jump. Eddie Cahalan, Coolquill A.C. won double gold in the M65 800m & 1500m, Patrick Shelly Ballynonty A.C. won bronze in the M65 200m & silver in the 800m, 1500m & 3km, Michael Moore , Dundrum A.C. won double gold in the M55 1500m & 3km with Adrian Young, Templemore A.C. winning silver in the M50 High Jump & bronze in the Long Jump & Shot. Stephen Flanagan, Moyne A.C. equalled the Munster record of 1.60m in the M35 High Jump. Congrats to all our athletes who took part.

County Trials for Community Games Cross Country & Marathon Teams

Trials will be held for County Community Games Cross Country & Marathon Teams on Friday 27th January @ 7pm in Thurles Crokes A.C. Grounds.  The Cross Country will be run off first followed by the Marathon (spikes allowed). The Cross Country Mixed Distance Relays - U/12 Boys & Girls will run 500m & first 6 (4 + 2 subs) across the line make up the County teams. U/14 Boys & Girls will run 700m & first 6 (4 + 2 subs) across the line make up the County teams. The Cross Country U/13 Boys & Girls  will run 1200m & first 4 Girls & first 4 Boys across the line make up the County team. U/16 Marathon - 7km Boys & Girls  first 4 Girls & first 4 Boys across the line make up the County team. Age groups are under the age as of 31st July 2017.
